Introducing Adaptive ACT Diagnostics for Smarter Test Prep

Many of today’s educators are tasked with preparing students for high-stakes assessments like the ACT, often with limited time and resources. The challenge isn’t just getting students to the test but making sure they’re truly ready to succeed.

That’s where data can make all the difference.

When teachers can pinpoint which skills students have mastered—and which still need work—they can tailor instruction, prioritize support, and make the most of every instructional minute. Diagnostic tools—especially when combined with full-length practice tests—help educators identify gaps early, track progress, and guide students toward meaningful growth.

This summer, we’ll be making it easier than ever to access those insights for the ACT.

  • How ACT Diagnostics Can Help Pinpoint Student Needs

The MasteryPrep Online Course for the ACT now includes a short, adaptive diagnostic assessment for each subject, designed to give educators a fast, accurate snapshot of where students stand and where to focus instruction.

Diagnostics are designed to:

  • Estimate the student’s likely ACT score range
  • Provide a comprehensive skill inventory aligned to ACT standards

Every question is tagged to a specific ACT standard and rigor level, enabling the diagnostic to adapt in real time based on student performance and producing a clearer, more accurate picture of skill proficiency. Diagnostic results are then used to generate a personalized learning path within the MasteryPrep platform, helping students focus on the skills they need most.

Because they’re brief and adaptive, diagnostics are easy to give in a single class period or intervention session, making them a great way to jumpstart the course or measure mid-point progress. They can also serve as a quick “pre-flight” assessment before students take a full-length practice test ahead of the actual exam, offering a clear view of growth over time.

Diagnostics are a powerful complement to MasteryPrep’s full-length practice tests. While practice tests help students build test-day readiness through realistic pacing and stamina practice, diagnostics offer a lighter lift to identify skill gaps and drive targeted prep from the start.
