MasteryPrep Boot Camp Instructor Q&A: Nancy Dankwah

  • Jordan Friedman
  • June 16, 2026

At MasteryPrep, our Boot Camps are about more than test-taking strategies. They’re designed to help students build confidence, stay engaged, and approach test day with a stronger sense of readiness.

We recently spoke with MasteryPrep Boot Camp instructor Nancy Dankwah about her journey into education, her experiences working with students, and the moments that make leading Boot Camps so rewarding.

  • What is your career or professional background outside of being a MasteryPrep instructor?
I’m actually a pharmaceutical engineer, so I did a lot of work in genetic engineering, biomedical engineering, chemistry, and interdisciplinary biology as well.
  • Why did you decide to become a MasteryPrep Boot Camp instructor?
I had seen online that MasteryPrep was looking for instructors to lead these Boot Camps, and at that point, I had been teaching ACT, SAT, and other core subjects—including math, science, and history—for about 10 years.

When I came across the opportunity, I thought it was a natural fit. I love public speaking and had been doing it on and off for about seven years. I had also been recognized by the State of Texas several times for my public speaking and presentation skills. I enjoy teaching, I enjoy presenting, and becoming a MasteryPrep instructor gave me the chance to combine those passions while helping students learn and grow.

  • What is your favorite part of being a MasteryPrep instructor?
The kids—oh my gosh. They’re so alive and full of personality. I feel like working with them keeps me young. As the oldest sibling in my family, it’s exciting to see students express themselves and share the new ideas they’re coming up with. It also gives me new ideas on how to teach. Seeing their creativity, curiosity, and different perspectives is one of the things I love most about leading Boot Camps.
  • What do you hope students get out of your MasteryPrep Boot Camps?
I hope students leave with a better understanding of what they might not have understood before. Something I like to do in my Boot Camps is provide crash-course instruction so that if a student doesn’t know something when they arrive, they’ll know it by the time they’re done.

As long as students are willing to be vulnerable and ask questions, I’m happy to teach them. If they can walk away with even one new concept, strategy, or idea they didn’t have before, then I feel like we’ve accomplished something meaningful.

  • What is one moment that stood out to you at a Boot Camp?
One of my favorite memories happened after a Boot Camp where I had been working closely with the students throughout the day. At the end of the workshop, they all came together and surprised me with a drawing of me teaching. They wrote “Best Teacher Ever” on it, and they even gave me a flower along with the picture.

I almost started crying because I had no idea they were working on it. I like to walk around the room and interact with students, so I’m still not sure how they managed to keep it a secret. Seeing them come together and create something so thoughtful was incredibly meaningful, and it’s a memory that has stayed with me ever since.
  • What do you enjoy most about working with MasteryPrep?
One thing I really appreciate about MasteryPrep is the emphasis on engagement. During training and throughout the organization, there’s a real focus on making sure instructors are connecting with students, not just delivering content.

A lot of programs focus primarily on covering material, but at MasteryPrep, the goal is to make sure the content actually sticks. That enthusiasm and engagement component is one of the company’s core principles, and I think it’s what helps students get more out of the experience and ultimately perform better on these assessments.
